The MIAMI vibes: AI Footwear Design Challenge, created by the MIAMI Shoe Museum, was conceived as more than a competition. It is a global laboratory where footwear becomes a site of cultural inquiry, technological experimentation, and future-oriented design.
Building on the success of previous editions, MIAMI Vibes 1.0 (2024), which premiered at MICAM Milan (Italy), and MIAMI Vibes 2.0,(2025), showcased in Miami during the Dancing Shoes exhibition celebrating the centennial of legendary Cuban-American performer Celia Cruz and her signature cantilever-style shoe style presented by the InterContinental Miami Hotel.
Edition 1.0 (2024) introduced the foundational premise: artificial intelligence as a creative partner in footwear design. Designers from around the world were invited to explore how AI could expand imagination rather than replace authorship. This inaugural edition established the challenge as a forward-thinking platform, positioning the Museum at the intersection of heritage and emerging technology.
Edition 2.0 (2025) deepened this dialogue by centering cultural legacy. In tribute to Celia Cruz's centennial, participants reimagined her iconic cantilever shoes through AI-driven design. The results demonstrated that heritage is not static; it is dynamic, adaptable, and capable of generating new visual languages. This edition fostered global conversations about identity, memory, authorship, and ethics in the age of machine collaboration.
Together, Editions 1.0 and 2.0 established MIAMI vibes as a space where history and innovation move in dialogue.
Now, MIAMI Vibes 3.0 advances the conversation at a historic and transformative moment.
The 2026 edition, titled “250 Years of the United States: Designed in Motion (1776–2026)”, invites designers, creatives, and innovators from around the world to imagine footwear as a dynamic expression of movement, identity, and technological exploration through the lens of sport and artificial intelligence.
In 2026, the United States celebrates 250 years of independence, a story defined by movement: migration, innovation, protest, ambition, and cultural exchange.
Emerging as a global sports mecca, Miami will host world-class events, including the F1 Grand Prix and FIFA tournaments, placing the city at the center of international attention.
The MIAMI Shoe Museum sees this moment as a unique intersection of culture, sport, and design: a stage where movement, both human and cultural, becomes a language of identity.
Under the theme
250 Years of the United States. Designed in Motion (1776–2026)
MIAMI vibes 3.0 invites designers worldwide to explore how American identity can be expressed through movement, using sport as a universal language and AI as a creative collaborator.
In this edition, footwear becomes:
• A vehicle of identity
• A symbol of freedom
• A tool of performance
• A wearable expression of history and future
Structured across three official categories: Speed & Innovation, The Global Game, and Freedom to Move, the challenge examines velocity, unity, and personal narrative as defining forces of American motion, reflecting both a national milestone and Miami’s emergence as an international sports capital in 2026.
MIAMI vibes 3.0 continues the MIAMI Shoe Museum’s mission to activate heritage as a living archive, not preserved to remain still, but designed to move forward.
